ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro |
ZTE Nubia has officially launched the ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone in China. This Smartphone comes with a strong Qualcomm Snapdragon 8gen1 CPU, magnetic wireless charging for the first time, and a highly stunning 64 megapixel Sony imx786 sensor. We are quite thrilled to do a comprehensive review of this Smartphone.
Launch date:
The ZTE Nubia Z40 pro is China's latest affordable flagship smartphone. It was initially announced on February 25, and a week later, on March 2, the brand officially launched the Smartphone in China. This phone is available in two colors: Galaxy and Interstellar black, and it has three different storage and RAM variants.
ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro Smartphone is currently available for 3,999 Chinese yuan for the 12GB+256GB model, while the other two variants are either sold out or will be available soon. On the other hand, this phone is available in all three varieties and colors at the Chinese smartphone retailer.
New features:
Nubia Z40 Pro | Nubia Z30 Pro |
---|---|
Snapdragon 8Gen1 | Snapdragon 888 |
5000mAh battery | 4200 mAh battery |
64MP with 35mm sensor | 64MP with 26mm sensor |

Before releasing a smartphone, the smartphone company always researches its rivals and works to improve the current specifications and features; hence, the Nubia Z40 was produced as a successor to its predecessor, the Nubia Z30 pro.
ZTE implemented a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU in the Nubia z40 Pro Smartphone for the first time. In contrast, the company previously used a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset in one of their handsets. The Qualcomm snapdragon 8gen1 is the most recent and powerful mobile SoC on the market, and it is also found in the recently released Vivo X fold Smartphone and several other smartphones.
ZTE, on the other hand, has included 66W magnetic wireless charging for the first time in this smartphone. There are also fresh modifications to the phone's camera and appearance. The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone has a massive 5000mAh battery, slightly higher compared to 4200mAh on the ZTE Nubia Z30 Pro smartphone. Above all, review our comprehensive tweaks in the preceding section.
The display remains the Same:
The display part of the Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone hasn't seen any significant alterations. Nubia adopted nearly similar specifications as they used previously in the Nubia Z30 Pro smartphone.

The Nubia Z40 pro smartphone, like the Samsung Note series, offers a rounded corner 6.67-inch full HD+ resolution (1080*2400 pixels) AMOLED edge display. This display supports HDR+ and has a maximum net peak brightness of 1,000 with one 1B color. The good news is that this display boasts DCI P3 color certification and a 144hz refresh rate.
If you look closely at the display, you'll see that the border around it is extremely narrow, and there's a small punch hole camera cutout on the top of it. Take a peek at the design section, for example, right now.
Design:
ZTE Nubia Z40 pro is largely made of glass on the front and rear, with a metal frame in the center. However, no one will assume it's a phone made of glass. From afar, the phone seems to be a solid aluminum-built smartphone. The Nubia Z40 Pro is only available in interstellar black and Galaxy color combinations.
The phone has a water fallback design with a 72.5° golden curve, a thickness of 8.4 mm, and a weight of 199 grams. It is available in two colors: Interstellar Black and Galaxy. It also sports a three-camera sensor in the back and a huge square dividend by the Nubia logo. Previously, Nubia offered quad-camera sensors quickly reduced to triple sensors.
The camera ports are vertically aligned to the left, with the middle camera slightly larger than the other two. On the contrary side of the camera, there is a Nubia branding name with a gradient finish.
Processor Performance:
The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone features the market's most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor. In addition to this one, other Chinese smartphone firms have implemented this processor in their devices. This chip, for example, was used in the Xiaomi Poco F4 GT smartphone.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8gen1 CPU features cutting-edge technologies based on a 5G connection, such as the ufs3.1 storage system and lpddr5 RAM management. It is also known as the SM8450 and is regarded as the company's most complex and advanced 5G processor to date. (Skip if you're not a techie.)
SM8450 is based on an octa-core CPU with a Cortex-X2 core with a maximum clock speed of 3.0 GHz. So far, two cores, Cortex A710 and Cortex-A510, have maximum clock speeds of 2.50 GHz and 1.80 GHz, respectively. This chipset, on the other hand, sports an Adreno 730 GPU. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 was designed with an emphasis on 5G connectivity and flagship performance. This processor will boost up a maximum download speed of 10 Gbps.
We actually compared this chipset to MediaTek density 7000, and the results were quite comparable, although MediaTek dimensity 7000 (see our Oppo Find X5 review since it also uses Mediatek dimensity 7000 SoC) performed slightly better here. However, keep in mind that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset's engineers optimized this chipset for various online games since it loads faster than the MediaTek dimensity 7000 SoC.
The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone is available in a variety of storage and RAM configurations. These are some examples.
Ram | storage |
---|---|
8GB | 128GB |
12GB | 256GB |
12GB | 512GB |
16GB | 1TB |
Interestingly, the ram and storage used LPDDR5 and ufs3.1 Technology for enhanced and better processing.
ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone comes with out-of-the-box Android 12 and runs on myOS 12 as a user interface. Android 12 is the latest Android operating system which comes in a few smartphones. Android 12 redesigned the whole user interface starting from Shape, animation, and customizable system color option. It pushback priority on privacy since it comes with a Stronger mic and camera access control, makes your location private, and so on.
Camera performance:
The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro features a triple camera sensor on the rear. The primary sensor is a 64MP Sony IMX 787 sensor with a 35mm wide aperture of f/1.7.
This 35mm lens may be used to take brighter zoomed photos. An 8MP periscope lens and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, on the other hand, are included. On the front, there's a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.5 aperture. I mean, taking selfies at night is equally vital. These sensors provide optical image stabilization, so your photos will be more steady in a shaky environment.

With the electronic image stabilization technology, you can capture up to 8K HDR 10+ video at 30fps or 4K at 30/60 FPS and 1080p at 30fps. Keep in mind that if you shoot in 4K/ 8K resolution, you won't receive the EIS function.
Battery and charging:
Surprisingly, the Nubia Z40 pro has a secondary special edition, the gravity version. It was purposefully designed to only enable magnetic wireless charging.
The gravity version's battery size has been reduced to 4600 mAh, and it now supports 66W fast charging with a 15W magnetic wireless charging capability. The regular version, however, will not have wireless charging. It does include a 5000 mAh battery with an 80W rapid charging ability.
This battery will provide you easily two days of standby because it has a 5000 mAh battery capacity. And if you're a gamer, you don't need to worry about the charging speed. It will take less than an hour to fully charged your Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone.
My OS 12:
In the Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone, ZTE utilized myOS 12 with out-of-the-box Android 12 instead of last year's Nubia UI. My OS is a ZTE-owned mobile operating system interface that debuted on March 30, 2021. MyOS operating system has improved certain critical functions, such as the Climber behavior lock screen, which measures your step and provides statistics on your goal success. In addition, you'll notice a more flexible home screen with redesigned icons and appearance.
Pricing:
The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone costs 3,999 Chinese yuan and comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There are a few more variants available, however, they are now out of stock, which you can easily find out in your local shop store.
Pros and cons:
The Nubia z40 Pro 5G smartphone is loaded with great features, such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU, which can manage all of your personal and professional tasks. It also has a triple-back camera sensor with magnetic wireless charging, which is quite useful. Because the firm is focused on processor and performance, the Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone's display and camera have not been enhanced. Overall, we can anticipate the ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro to be a compact gaming device.
