Starlink, the only satellite-powered internet service, has officially begun its operation in Bangladesh. This SpaceX-owned company has been providing services to more than 125 countries globally.

Bangladesh joins the chart as the second country in South Asia, after Bhutan, to have this WiFi internet service. Meanwhile, its neighbors, India and Pakistan, are both waiting for regulatory approval.

Starlink internet plan and cost

Although they offer a total of 7 plans in their lineup, they have initially launched 2 plans in Bangladesh. These are Starlink Residential and Residential Lite. While the Starlink Residential plan costs 6000 BDT per month, the monthly cost of the Residential Lite plan is much lower, at 4200 BDT.

However, if you want to use Starlink Wi-Fi, you have to spend 47,000 BDT on setup equipment. These devices will be essential to establish a connection between your devices and Starlink’s satellite.

Benefits of Starlink internet

Unlike traditional fiber cable, satellite-powered Wi-Fi is much easier to set up. It doesn't need wiring or cable management, so you can easily connect your devices. To do this, follow the below two simple steps.

  • Plugging the devices
  • And pointing it to the sky

Another advantage of using Starlink is that you will get high-speed internet anywhere. You can connect from a remote area or an area where cable connection is difficult to establish.

Difference between Starlink Residential and Residential Lite plans:

While both of the plans provide unmetered fast internet speed, they differ in terms of the number of connected devices. The Residential plan can handle around 10 to 12 devices simultaneously. And it is suitable for those businesses and people who do online streaming, a lot of heavy work, and high bandwidth connection on their computers. On the other hand, Residential Lite plan is designed for small families with few devices for day-to-day tasks.

Starlink Wi-Fi speed

Starlink Wi-Fi users generally experience between 25 and 220 Mbps download speed, with the majority of them experiencing speeds over 100 Mbps, the company claimed in a post. On the other hand, upload speeds are typically between 5 and 20 Mbps. While latency ranges are between 25 and 60 ms on land, they can be as high as 100+ ms in some remote locations.

In Bangladesh, Starlink Wi-Fi speed will be up to 300 Mbps, said interim aide Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, who holds the position of assistant to the Ministry of State of Bangladesh.

The story behind Starlink in Bangladesh

The story behind bringing Starlink to the Bangladesh is much broader and contextual.

Under the previous government back in 2024, Bangladeshis faced unbearable political unrest, leading to frequent internet outages across the country. These types of unethical actions of limiting internet connection raise awareness among the public, and as a result, demand for Starlink in Bangladesh grow.

This promise is now fulfilled by Dr. Yunus, who is in charge of the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. His decision to bring Starlink to Bangladesh has received much appreciation from many people, as well as netizens.
